Comments: Not only will we be hoping to break a Guinness World Record, the main purpose of the event is to raise funds in honour of brave children like Diamond Marshall, who is currently battling cancer at the Alberta Children's Hospital.
The proceeds raised from this event will go to support cancer re-search and life-saving care at the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation and - as home to the tournament - a portion of the funds will also support the Chestermere Minor Hockey Association.
Halat is part of the Oilympics, a group of guys in the oilpatch who each year raise money for charities.
Last year, the group held its 18th annual hockey tournament and raised a record $135,000 for selected charities.
Over the years, the Oilympics has raised more than $1 million for good causes in the com-munity.
One morning last fall, Halat thought of doing something unusual and thought of the concept for the world's longest hockey game.
At the same time, one of his former teammates, Lyall Marshall, popped into his mind and how Halat would like to do something for Marshall's daughter, Diamond, in her honour.
"The two just tied together," says Halat.
